About Us

We are a plant store and so much more!

Paradise Plants began in 1978 as a small plant nursery attached to Davie’s Building Supply in Keaukaha. The business moved two more times in Hilo before landing at its present location of 40 Wiwoole Street. Founded by, Lesley Hill, Paradise Plants aimed to offer a variety of plants for Hawaii’s climate, top quality garden supplies and expert advice. By the early 90’s, Lesley began to bring in containers of tropical hard wood furniture, statuary and stone mosaic from Indonesia plus colorful ceramic pots from Vietnam.

Lesley truly loved the community of Hilo and enjoyed meeting everyone who came into the store. Upon her passing in May 2017, her daughters, Maikalani and Loke, took over ownership and formed Paradise Plants Home and Garden Center LLC. Many of you have told us how much you appreciate Paradise Plants, and we aim to continue to improve upon her legacy.

We will continue to bring in quality solid wood furniture from Indonesia, sofas and sectionals from Canada, ceramic pots from Vietnam, plus unique home decor and gift items from around the world. Annually we bring in bare root fruit trees from California and flower and vegetable bulbs in Spring. We are also thrilled to announce collaboration with more local artisans. Since May 2021 we have occasional evening music events in our open air warehouse.

Along with the outstanding staff: Shannan, Vicky, Cathy, Fauna, JD and Matt, her daughter’s Maika and Loke continue to oversee Paradise Plant’s present and future success.

Thank you all for your continued patronage and support!
